Background of the Study
Urban transportation is a critical component of urban living that significantly influences commuter satisfaction and overall quality of life (Adekunle, 2023). In Ibadan North, rapid urbanization has led to increased traffic congestion, inadequate public transit systems, and infrastructure deficits (Olawale, 2024). These challenges contribute to commuter frustration and reduced productivity, as well as environmental degradation (Adebayo, 2023). Recent studies indicate that a robust transportation network is essential for sustainable urban development and economic growth (Chukwu, 2025). This research investigates the interplay between transportation challenges and commuter satisfaction in Ibadan North, considering factors such as service reliability, accessibility, and affordability (Ibrahim, 2023). The study aims to provide a detailed analysis of existing transportation inefficiencies and their broader socio-economic implications, offering recommendations for improving urban mobility.
Statement of the Problem
Ibadan North faces persistent urban transportation challenges, including congestion, inadequate service frequency, and limited connectivity, which have led to declining commuter satisfaction (Ogunleye, 2023). These issues contribute to economic losses and increased pollution levels (Chisom, 2024). The absence of systematic studies on commuter experiences and satisfaction limits the ability of policymakers to address these challenges effectively (Nwankwo, 2023). This study seeks to fill this gap by examining transportation inefficiencies and their impact on commuters’ daily lives.

Significance of the Study
This study is significant as it provides an in-depth analysis of urban transportation challenges and commuter satisfaction, offering empirical evidence for improving transit systems. The findings will assist policymakers and urban planners in designing targeted interventions that enhance mobility, reduce congestion, and improve overall quality of life (Adebola, 2024; Olufemi, 2025).
Scope and Limitations of the Study:
This study is limited to examining urban transportation challenges and commuter satisfaction in Ibadan North Local Government Area, Oyo State. It does not extend to rural areas or other transportation sectors.
